Location

The Casanova ai Tolentini bed and breakfast is in the Dorsoduro neighborhood, just a two minute walk from Piazzale Roma in an area of Venice that deserves your attention for the beautiful Cà Pesaro - Modern Art Museum where there are the works of some of the most important artists of the 19th and 20th century - the permanent exhibit of 18th century furniture and portraits from Venice in Cà Rezzonico and the lively nightlife of Campo Santa Margherita.

Walking in the nearby neighborhood of San Polo, you find the bacari and osteria that honor the tradition of good wine and tasty cicheti, a typical Venetian snack; here, the splendid Scuola di San Rocco is just a few meters from the Basilica dei Frari with its extraordinary painting by Tiziano, Sansovino and Bellini.

Continuing past the marvelous buildings that surround campo San Polo, you are just a few minutes from the Rialto market and the famous architecture of its bridge; one of the most popular tourist destinations that we suggest you visit near sunset, sipping a drink, the classic spritz, in one of the Erbaria bars facing the Grand Canal.

If you want to go shopping, leave Rialto and walk along the Mercerie, perhaps the most important commercial artery along with via XXII Marzo; here, you'll find all types of stores from the most exclusive boutiques to stores that sell precious Murano glass works to jewlery stores to small souvenir shops to elegant clothing stores.

After the Mercerie, pass under the arch of the lovely Clock Tower and enjoy the vast expanse that is Piazza San Marco, which is overlooked by the high bell tower, one of the most recognizable symbols of Venice; on your right, the imposing facade of the Basilica di San Marco, a masterpiece of mosaics and spectacular cupolas located near the Palazzo Ducale, the best expression of Gothic Venice and the ancient home of the Doge, where you can admire the extraordinarily decorated rooms, the most famous of which is without a doubt the Sala del Maggior Consiglio. Amazing!

Venice continues with...

  • the surreal backdrop of the lagoon and its islands
  • walks along the banks of the Zattere
  • the traditional Castello neighborhood
  • the works of the Guggenheim Foundation
  • the roads and beaches of the Lido
  • the hidden corners of Cannaregio

How to Get Here:

BY TRAIN
When you reach the Santa Lucia train station, leave the tracks behind you and head left towards the Ponte degli Scalzi; cross the bridge, turn right towards fondamenta di San Simeone. You're almost there - before the bridge, turn left towards the fondamenta dei Tolentini. Go past the University of Architecture and you'll come to the Ponte del Gafaro and Rio dei Tolentini. Our B&B is right here, in fondamenta del Gafaro.

BY CAR
Come to the Venice toll booth and follow the directions for the city. You'll reach the highway terminal of Piazzale Roma; leave your car in one of the common pay parking lots and head toward the nearby "Tre Ponti" area. Once you've passed it, stay straight and after a bit, you'll see our sign at the start of fondamenta del Gafaro; we'll be waiting for you inside a small courtyard on the right (travel time 2 minutes).

BY PLANE
The Venice "Marco Polo" airport is in Tessera, about 15 km away. To reach us, we suggest taking ACTV bus nr. 5 (leaves every 10 minutes) or the blue ATVO line and get off at the end of the line in Piazzale Rome; continue following the directions listed under "By Car." A water taxi service is also available that will bring you right to the entrance of the B&B (€80.00 circa) and there is also a taxi service for Piazzale Rome (about €35.00).
